OK, in that case, we need to understand exactly what the user means by
writing "it refuses to let out any e-mail to addressees outside my immediate
neighbourhood."
I take it that this refers to the inability to send to e-mail addresses on
domains other than the one being used by the user? If so, in what way does
Entourage "refuse"? Is there an error message and an error number? If so,
please quote it in full.
If we get enough detail back, I should be able to help, but you may also
wish to cross-post the question in the equivalent Entourage newsgroup.

Ricky

Thanks Rick, I have forwarded your reply to our member and will let you know
what she says.
I notice that there are two Entourage News Groups, what one would you
recommend please?

Hi again,
The full list of MS newsgroups for Office applications is here...
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/community/community.aspx?pid=newsgroups>
This lists the Entourage group as microsoft.public.mac.office.entourage.

Rick, this is the latest that I have got from our member:
" Hello Joe,
I have just tried again and this time the messages did go out. I have still
quoted the error message below. The progress window always went through the
motions of sending, then after a few minutes the error message appeared. I
am still curious what could have caused it.
The Error message is: "An operation on the server timed out. The server may
be down, overloaded, or there may be too much net traffic.
Explanation: Message could not be sent. Account name tassie.net.au."
Error 111
or
Error 3259"
Not knowing anything of the idiosyncrasies of the MAC system I have the
feeling that this may be more server related than computer but you would
have a better idea than me.
Thanks for your time.

I'm not sure that I've seen error 111 before, but error 3259 is reasonably
common and does suggest that it's an issue in the communication with the
mail server, which means that the occur might occur sporadically. It's
worth it for the user to retry a number of times now that we're sure they're
using the right settings; it may be that the issue resolves itself over
time.

Thanks Rick,
I will pass that on and see what she thinks, get back to you if there's
anything else.
I haven't posted on the other NG you recommended as I think that you have it
covered pretty well in what you say.
