Retrieving emails and folders after restoring OS9

Hi there

I've had my blue G3 iMac for years and have never had any real problems
with it- it runs OS9.0 and I use Outlook Express for emails, which has
always been fine. (sorry, don't know which version as I am at work, but
it came with the iMac when I bought it)

Last week I downloaded an update to OS9.0.4 from the Apple website, but
after installing it found that I could not reboot the iMac and had to
open with the restore disk and then restore the hard drive. Since I
have done this I have lost all the emails and folders which were
previously in Outlook and have a new Macintosh Harddrive, which
includes all the files which came off the old one in one file
(something like 'Original items').

Is there any way of importing any of the Outlook Express information
from the old hard drive, and how do I go about it?! I'm a bit useless
when something goes wrong with computers! I also wondered whether there
was a way of importing any of the old information from the original
hard drive to the new one, but I think that might be a question for
another group!

Many thanks for any assistance anyone can give me.

Suse

Hi Suse,

The key information will be contained within the Identities folder, which
should be in one of these two locations...

1) Mac HD:Documents:Microsoft User Data:Identities:
2) Mac HD:[path to OE application folder]:Identities:

One of these two pathways should exist within the "Original items" folder
that's been created on your HD.  If you were to get hold of the appropriate
Identities folder from within the "Original items" folder and copy it to the
correct location (pathway 1 above), that should restore your old content in
Outlook Express.  When you do this, you'll be asked whether or not to
replace the existing Identities folder, which should be fine; just make sure
that Outlook Express is not open at the time.

I hope that's clear enough - post back if you're still having difficulties.

Hi Ricky

That's fantastic- thanks for replying so quickly. I'm at work at the mo
but will have a bash at it later and let you know how I get on.

Many thanks
Suse
