Is there a way to new messages (junkmail) in Outlook Express without having
to click on them and opening them? For example just a box next to the
message that you can check and mark it for deletion?

Go to View > Preview Pane first to turn off the Preview Pane at the bottom
of the screen. Then click the message once and delete it. After you've
done that, you can turn the Preview Pane back on.
