Outlook Express and Internet Explorer quit

My problem began when I put my Mac to sleep while it was trying to send
an e-mail. My computer crashed.  (The screen froze.  The only thing
that would move was the cursor.)  After turning it off and back on
again, other programs work fine, but Outlook Express and Internet
Explorer start to open and then just quit with a message: "The
application Outlook Express [or Internet Explorer]has unexpectedly quit
because of an error of type 2 occurred.  You should save your work in
other open applications and restart the computer."  Restarting makes no
difference.  I've done everything except wave a dead chicken over it.
No change.

I'm running OS 9.2.2 in my iMac with Outlook Express version 5.0.6 and
Internet Explorer version 5 (MacIntosh Edition (C).  It has worked fine
until now.  Does anyone know how I can get out of this and recover my
e-mail addresses and Favorites?

I would start by deleting or renaming the following file...

Mac HD:System Folder:Preferences:Internet Preferences
