error while launching

Having used OE (5.02) for several years, this weekend it began crashing on
launch with the error message:

'An error occurred while launching. The end of file was reached.'

I think it might have something to do with the number of messages stored
within (Messages file in the Main Identities is 962.2 MB). Once dragged to
the desktop, OE launches OK but all the stored messages are scrambled!

Anyone come across this and know how to fix?

See Q010 on http://machelp.webhop.net/

That Messages file is really important, so make sure you put it back where
it was before you do anything else(!)

BTW, I'd recommend an upgrade to OE 5.0.6 here...
