Cannot import info from OE from my OS9 into my OS10

I hope somebody can help me!  I have a G3 iMac (Special Edition DV).  I
have been running OS9.2 on it and OE5.  I just installed OS10 Jaguar on
it.  Although my Microsoft User Data folder, with my Identies folder
inside it, is inside my Documents folder on my hard drive, which I can
acess when running OS10, when I click on any of the things inside and
launch OE -- which launches in a smaller Classic mode window -- the OE
that comes up is does not have any of my user stuff -- old emails,
folders, etc.  It only has 1 message in it, Welcome to Outlook Express.
When I try to switch identies, it turns out to be the only one, "Main
Identity."  I then tried (and tried, and tried, and tried) to import,
using Import from the File dropdown menu, choosing Outlook Express as
the program to import from, and importing from the identies folder in
the Microsoft User Data folder.  But it keeps cancelling the action
right away, with a window reading Import Cancelled, and text saying,
"Outlook Express did not finish importing data from your current
program.  You may finish importing at a later time by selecting Import
from the File menu."  I have done this over and over, but it doesn't
work.  I WAS able to import my contacts from a text file I created
using the Export Contacts feature, but that doesn't really help with
the rest of the identity stuff.  What can I do?  I will GREATLY
appreciate advice!

Many people have been confused by this.  The key is to make sure that your
Microsoft User Data content is stored not within the Documents folder at the
root of the HD, but within the Documents folder of your Home folder i.e.

WRONG - Mac HD:Documents:Microsoft User Data:

RIGHT - Mac HD:Users:[your user]:Documents:Microsoft User Data:

Ricky -- the above is an answer you gave Daniel  who's having the same
problem as I: getting my OE 5.0.6 Address Book etc over to 10.3.8.  Tried
the HD/User (jimxxxx)/Documents/MUD/Script Menu Items.  Didn't work.

In a previous email you told me how to get  to /Library/Scripts/Mail/Import
Addresses.scpt on my OSX HD/Library/Scripts/Mail Scripts/Import
Addresses.scrpt.

Got a Script window, clicked on RUN.
Asked for info location; went to to OE application (way down on HD list).
Script window again, clicked on COMPILE.

Took a loooong while before getting 726 cards.  Now, my OE AB has just 241
addresses in it (including several groups) which I don't believe add up to
726.

However, NONE of the cards when opened have any of my OE/AB info in them.
They ALL have a note at bottom of each blank card that says JOY!peffpwpc.

So where did I go wrong?

Has anybody really transferred OE/AB to OSX Mail.  Maybe you're going to
have to give Daniel and I a specific step-by-step tutorial.

This has been the most frustrating transfer of info I've ever done in more
than 15 years working with the Mac.

Thanks,
Jim from Hilton Head

I have difficulties in trying this myself as I recently wiped my three
machines for an upgrade to Tiger, and I haven't kept any old OE data.  If
I'm able to test it on another machine, I'll relay back what should happen.

If you also need access when booted from OS9, you could use aliases of each
id folder in "Identities" folder.

Script Menu Items? (this is for within OS9/Classic)

What I tried was, firstly, in MSOE, File, Export Contacts...
Then used the Import Addresses.scpt to import that file.
It worked for me, but that may be because of a small list!
