Error message

I can receive but not send mail. On sending the error message is: 'cannot be
sent to account. Authentication required'. My server has confirmed (many
times) that my account settings are correct and have no more ideas.

Everything worked before I reinstalled OS9 (and I've now reinstalled twice
to try and fix this problem in case the OS was corrupted). Something is
preventing the outgoing messages from reaching the server. Any help will be
appreciated!

That error message implies that OE has not been configured to authenticate
when contacting the SMTP server.  If this is the case, you can rectify that
by going to Tools > Accounts > Mail > [your mail account] > "Click here for
advanced sending options", then specify the relevant outgoing (SMTP) mail
settings.

Alternatively, the error could occur because you are connecting to the
Internet via a connection that is not allowed to send mail directly through
your SMTP server, and hence you are required to authenticate on the SMTP
server before being allowed to send through it.  Are you still connecting
with exactly the same ISP setup that you had before the reformat?
