._Files not closing properly on Win2K3 share

I have a number of users (OS X) connecting to a Windows 2003 server share via
SMB://server/share.  After any user edits a file, the file name is recreated
in the directory with a ._filename.  The issue here is when the user closes
the file the ._filename does not close which leaves that file in an "open"
state.  Obviously this limits other users from editing/moving/deleting this
file.
I then open Computer Management/Shared Files/Open Files and see hundreds of
these ._files open with the "Open Mode" set to "READ".

Please help, this is becoming a real pain for the MAC users.
Thanks!

This is a bug in Mac OS X 10.3.  I believe this got fixed in 10.4.

Is upgrading to 10.4 for $150.00 the only answer?  If so, I guess we have to
bite the bullet.

Thanks!

10.4 is the answer, but you can get a 5 pack of upgrades and save yourself a
lot of $.  It depends on how many Mac users you support.
