I have a PowerBook G4 that is running OSX. There OS9 drivers are
missing and I was told by someone at Apple that I need to erase the HD
and reinstall OSX and 9. However, I cannot boot up from the system
restore CD to erase the HD because the computer crashes when I try to
do. Any suggestions.

Are you using the Restore disks that came with your machine?
What do you mean by "the computer crashes"?

Yes I’m using the sytstem restore CD that came with the machine.
Sorry, didn’t mean crashes. It freezes every time I try to boot up
from this CD.

G'day,
I've got a look-a-like problem. OS-X-10.3 is on my HD but I have to install
OS9. Is it really necessary to format the whole HD, install OS9 and then
install OS-X-10.3 or is it possible to install the systemfolder of OS9 on
top of the OS-X-10.3 folder?
Thx.

Fred,
Usually, at least with the newer machines, there should be an additional
installation package on the system disks that will allow you to install Mac
OS 9 for the Classic Environment. If you don't have this installation
package, you may be able to find someone who does. It's actually independent
from the rest of the installation and can be installed without erasing the
Hard Drive first.
Let me know if this helps at all!

Hi Jayson,
Thx for the advice! I installed MAC OS9 on top of OS-X (with a clean
install). To my surprise OS-X was not affected by this. Now I remember why
I've been working with a mac for 20 years now!!!
Regards,
Fred
