OK, not sure if this is the correct place for this questions but here goes.

We are upgrading from our current Mac OS 9.2.2 to The new Mac OS
Panther. Right now we have a Server (Macintosh OS Server 10.2.6). And the
server hard drives automatically mount our desktops after we log in. so we
have access to them throughout the day.
My questions is will this task be as easy with the new upgrades? I am
not a 100% how to do it with the new OS. If you guys have experience and
suggestions they are all welcomed.

Thank You in advance for your assistance.

Hi Phil!

You have a couple of ways to tackle this depending on your security and
the way you choose to administer your systems.

Since you have Mac OS X Server you should be able to use the Workgroup
Manager to create network mounts that are connected for user
automatically. Of course this will mean you must manage your Macs with
the server. I would suggest keeping the OS versions between the server
and the Macs the same to avoid any little inconsistencies.

If you choose not to manage your Macs with the server and security is
not a concern for you then you can use a simple login script to mount
the drives. This would require you coding the user name and password
into the script, which could be viewed by anyone.

Apple's website has plenty of PDF documentation and other sites such as
macenterprise.org and afp548.com are choc full of administrative
documentation.

Hope this helps! bill
