Ive had this PM G5 for a little while now and it has had a problem since I
got it out of the box. I went through applecare and did everything they
suggested to fix the computer but nothing about memory came up. I started to
just deal with it closing App's randomly until recently I figured I would
try the hardware scan utility that came with my machine. Sure enough it
failed the memory scan on #1 of my two 1 Gig sticks. Was just curious if
many others had this problem also.

Was that original memory or 3rd party?

If not original what kind was it?

It was original samsung memory that came with the computer. I have since
replaced it with a new stick courtesy of Apple and all is good. Again was
just wondering if many others have had this same problem.

Oh yes... I am having quite a nightmare with my ram at the moment on a new
g5... I have had one lot of replacement from Apple and things were no
better.  Curiously everything seems OK when I remove the offending sticks
which makes me wonder if the fault might actually be on the motherboard.

Paul.

It very well might be paul. They had me play musical chairs with the
different sticks of RAM to issolate that it was one stick and not the board.
Well and the overly long proccess of Apple Hardware Test :-p but so far I
have been perfect with this new RAM they sent me. Sounds like it is either
your board or your ram controller. If theres anything I can help with let me
know it would be my pleasure otherwise good luck to you!

I have a G5 with 2Gig as well, and haven't had any problems.  But my at
work Dell PC started crashing randomly when I added an extra Gig to the
1/2Gig that came with it.  Apparently, the first 1/2Gig stick from Dell
(Samsung parts also,) just wasn't a particularly happy piece of memory
--- but memory testers would not declare it that way.

Of course, being a computer engineer, I know that a memory test in your
machine is nothing compared to a bench top memory tester!

Anyway, I certainly don't think its Apple specific, even using good
quality memory components you can still get bit.

good luck,
Chris
