I am using Mozilla 1.6a Mozilla/5.0 (Macintosh; U; PPC Mac OS X Mach-O;
en-US; rv:1.6a) Gecko/20031029 on a Mac running OS X v 10.1.5.
I have the above Mozilla, Netscape 7.0 and just in case I have to read a
web page designed by some "Works best [only works] with IE 5.0 or
better" miscreant, I have IE 5.1 installed. I have never used it.
I have set the default browser in the Mac system prefs to Mozilla. I
have bookmarks.html files and other .html files created by Netscape and
Mozilla. Those created by Netscape have Netscape icons, but those
created by Mozilla have IE icons.
Whenever I double-click on any .html file with the IE icon, Microsoft
Internet Explorer opens up and asks if I want to make it the default
browser. I check the "NO" check box and close IE, but this happens every
time. When I double-click on an .html file with the Netscape icon,
Netscape opens up. What about my DEFAULT browser?
My hope is that there is an easy fix to this very minor problem. My fear
is that somehow a predeliction for IE was hard wired into the Mac OS
when Microsoft bailed out Apple.

Your default browser has nothing to do with the application associated
with .html files. Use the Finder's Info window "Open with" and click
"Change All" to change it to Mozilla.
