Suppose a Usenet troll has a from line
blah_substring_blah <somename@somedomain>
unless it has been recently fixed, Mozilla/Netscape
can filter this troll's messages if the filter
EXACTLY says
"Sender includes somename@somedomain"
None of the following have ever worked for me
from NS 4.5 through Moz 1.3:
"Sender includes somedomain"
"Sender includes somename"
"Sender includes blah_substring_blah"
"Sender includes substring"
Is there a workaround? This particular troll
changes somename or somedomain many times per week,
but he is really proud of "substring" and always
includes it.
Also, it would be nice if "Run filters on folder"
was not an always-ghosted option. (to get rid of
a hundred troll posts as soon as you see one new
address)

When all you have is a perl, everything looks like a string.

I set up a filter "Sender includes somename/substring".
Seems to work (partly) with Moz1.5RC2. When A new message arrives, e.g. or I
reopen the specific group, the filter seems to run. But it worked not good in on
existing messages.
Works also much better in a "normal" mailbox (pop3) than in News.
In News the option "run filters on folder" does not exist. I guess its not
implemented.
Good luck . . . Martin
