This annoys me to no end, especially when you have more than one mouse
button. However, for web browsers it seems that the menus are a bit
different for web browsers:
command-click to open a link in a new window
control-click for a context menu
option-click to download link to disk
shift-click does nothing. I nominate that for open in new tab.
This gets really annoying when the menu pops up while selecting from a
form's <select>. You have to select "View Page Info" just to get rid of
it.
File a bug on this and post the number so we can vote, or let me know
and I will.

Ugh. Too bad there isn't a way to vote no for a bug...

Thanks for the info. This is bad news. I'm joining Bugzilla just so I can
vote on this. Moz 1.4 with Pinstripe is (for me) the best OSX browser
around, but this 'feature' (really a holdover from before the Mac knew how
to do a context menu) really is a pain.

This only happens to me when I click and hold, and I've never noticed it
to be annoying. One thing you might try is adjusting the Preferences
for your mouse/trackball/whatever (I use a Kensington USB Turbo Mouse,
one button is also set for cmd+click as a "right click") - the Double
Click and/or Click speed until you can get a balance you can live with.
