Can't import Thunderbird mail into Mail.app

Hello,

I recently switched from Win to MacBook Pro, and I'm trying to get all
my emails over to the new box.

On Win I had Thunderbird, and I managed to import all of my stuff
straight into Mac Thunderbird: just drop the same profile folder in the
right place and that's it, no need to convert/import anything, my stuff
was there!

Now, there's no way to import from Mac Thunderbird over into Mail.app.
Whatever option I choose when importing (Eudora, Netscape/Mozilla,
Other, whatever) it will let me browse to the Mac Thunderbird
folder/files, but when I'm in there all the files appear to be dummy
like if I had no permission to select it.

That's one of the possible causes listed in the Mail.app help, but when
I checked I found that I have full ownership/permission on those files.
Of course I'd add, since I manage the same files with a different
application (Mac Thunderbird) but with the same account (myself).

Anybody has a clue?

Thanks
Roberto

Can you be more specific about this please?  I just tried moving my
daughter's mail from Thunderbird on a Linux (Xandros) laptop to a new
Macbook Pro using a USB stick and dragging the profile to
library/thunderbird, but when we opened TB on the Mac it downloaded
all the mail from the server 4 or 5 times but there was nothing in her
sent folder and all of her none default folders were gone.  All her
mail settings were intact though.

You can't simply clone a profile from Linux to Max OSX.  The paths are
different.

I would suggest removing the profile from the Mac.  Set up a new
profile, with all mail and news accounts. Then close TB, and copy the
Mail and News subfolders from the Linux profile into the Mac Profile.

Reopen TB, and the data should be there.

Thanks for the advise.  I finally managed to get what she needed
copied.  It is a PITA that closing down the last window of an app
doesn't close the app like it does in OS/2.  At first the changes
didn't seem to work until I finally figured out that TB was still
running.  Is there a way to change that behaviour?

That's simply the way Mac's are.  Closing the last window does not close
the application in any app on OSX.  You have to close it from the
(Appname) menu in the menu bar.
