Hi folks !

I've just tried the X11 version of Firefox for Mac OS X.
I was amazed about how faster this version is !

It launch fast and most of all, the scrolling of web sites is faster
than light while "native" version is slow as a turtle. In a way, it is
good news : my Mac is fast, I was just wondering...

My simple example :

Try page-up page-down, you will see !

The question is : will be a next version of Gecko WITHOUT this amazing
slowdown in Carbon / Cocoa ?

Which X11 version did you use?
I tried mine and can only confirm your oservation. Compared to the X11-gtk+,
Carbon is just so slow :-(
Unfortunately, I didn't get gtk2+xft to work yet, so the fonts look kinda ugly.
But I'll work on it :-)

I hope that the native one gets faster in the future, somehow I dont really like
the X11 look in between all the Cocoa/Carbon apps.

Greetings . . . Martin

Don't exactly. It was a link from another newsgroup. Some guy somewhere
who built it. Does a version with gtk2 + xft (what is xft ?) would bring
some even better performances ?

Hi,

could you please post the link? I am always eager to see how other people's
builds work to improve my own.

A version with gtk2+xft would be better in terms of looks. gtk2 uses the GTK2
toolkit (you probably guessed that) and xft provides font antialiasing. Looks
nicer then.

Greetings . . . Martin

P.S.: f'up set to n.p.m.macosx
