Rebecca Harriss [MSFT] - 30 Jan 2007 18:43 GMT We have just released an updated version of Microsoft Messenger, version 6.0.2.
You can download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/downl oad/misc/messenger60_download.xml
This release includes changes in the following areas: -Certificate alert now appears if you are missing a certificate preventing sign-in. If you get this alert, you need to contact Apple to find out how to obtain/re-install the certificate. -Chat history for long histories should now save correctly -Some users were having issues where ALL contacts appeared offline, this has been resolved in this release. -Messenger logging support has been added and is disabled by default. If you contact PSS with problems, they may ask you to enable logging so they can further investigate any issues.
Thanks, Rebecca Harriss

The url wrapped a line since it was so long. Here is a tinyurl version to use.

The url is wrapped over a line, so if the above doesn't work by copying/pasting into your browser, you can also try this tinyurl version.

Ok, it does not take a M$ programmer to know that if the URL is too long, just a a couple of "<>" at the ends. It keeps the URL locked together.
I fixed it. The link should work.
Rebecca, if 6.0.1 is working for me, is there an advantage to upgrade?? Thanks.
p.s. I WANT VIDEO SUPPORT !!!!!

There are no other new features in this release, so it is entirely up to you.
As for the url, my apologies. I was trying to get the post once the bits were live, and forgot the < >. I have also started including the tiny urls as they are smaller and easier for many to see and reference than a long url in case someone is copying/pasting or just retyping the url.
Thanks, Rebecca

Hi Erina!
Logging support is available if you are dealing directly with Microsoft support. You'll find the following information on this page <http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/d ownload/misc/messenger60_download.xml>
"Additionally, Messenger for Mac 6.0.2 includes logging. Log files can help troubleshoot various problems in Messenger such as connection problems, status failures, and other issues. Enabling logs saves a file containing personal information to ~/Documents. Anyone with access to this directory can open this file. By default, Messenger logging is turned off. For more information about how to enable logging for troubleshooting problems, contact support."
Logging will only help Microsoft diagnose your problems and you will only want Microsoft to see your log file because it can contain personally identifiable information.
You won't be able to use the following link on a Mac but if you attempt to use Web Messenger on a Windows computer are you able to log in to your account? <http://webmessenger.msn.com/>

I see that there have been lots of problems in the past with Mac users downloading Microsoft products.
I can't download the new version and when I use my old version, the file it grabs is a Messenger.bin file that I can't open.
I'm getting the same error "Server Not Found" that I notice has been a problem for at least a year based on my scanning of this Usenet group.
I use Comcast as my internet service.
Please help?!!!

It is advised that you obtain further information about the contents of this file from the sender or provider of the file.
So i'm stuck.

I would try to download it again (and eventually from a different browser to avoid potentially corrupted download cache).
THough I wonder where you are trying to download it from since the link on MacTopia leads to a .dmg:
<http://www.microsoft.com/mac/downloads.aspx?pid=download&location=/mac/ download/misc/messenger60_download.xml&secid=35&ssid=29&flgnosysreq=True
(be careful with the carriage returns)

I have tried to download it from Mactopia, Microsoft, and both give me the error the Server can't find the page. Other folks had the same trouble in January as well and in past downloads of Messenger. I think it's related to the Internet provider, Comcast, because I was able to get it at my work laptop which doesn't use Comcast. Just looking for some help because I always have nothing but trouble when I try to download ANYTHING microsoft. Guess it knows I'm a Mac user!
thanks!

I also heard that they filter e-mails (both in and outgoing) and a lot of people have been complaining.
To bypass the problem, you could consider using an alternate DNS instead of the one automatically provided through Comcast. When I get this type of problems, I sometimes use OpenDNS: http://www.opendns.com/
That might help your browser actually find the page (beleive me: the page is there - I've seen it ;-) ),
