Hi,
Did you look specifically in your Keychain Access application under the x509
anchors. Once you click on this you will see some certificates in the right
pane. If you do not have the "Secure Server Certification Authority"
certificate, and you are using Messenger 6.0.1, you will need to obtain the
certificate.
What version of the OS are you using? And what version of Messenger?
Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi Thanks for replying. I had that info in my first message which
wouldn't post (note the 8x this first post showed up) anyway, Im using
OS X 10.4.6 and messenger is 6.0.1, the latest upgrade. In the
keychain i was unable to find any anchors or the x510 (or anything like
it). Both certificate areas are blank.

Hi,
I got similar problem of "not able to sign in to Microsoft Messenger
because the service is not available or you are not connected to the
internet", for the past few days. My internet connection thru broadband
is fine. Can browse, receive email, etc with no problem.
Can anybody give me some clues as to what causing the problem. I run on
MAC OSX 10.4.7. with Microsoft MSN v6.0.1 (061002).
many thanks in advance.

Can you tell us what you've done to troubleshoot? Have you tried any of
the suggestions from this group such as deleting the following files?
com.microsoft.messenger.plist
com.microsoft.messengerdaemon.plist
Microsoft Messenger User Cache
Microsoft Messenger User Cache.plist
They are located in your ~/Library/Preferences/Microsoft folder.

Bill -
I tried it your way too... It still does not work. I went through the
whole installation again. This time it did find the MSN Messenger v5
that I had installed and uninstalled it, but it still does not allow me
to login, showing the same error as before: password is incorrect or
sign-in name is does not exist.

Hi,
It sounds like you may be missing some default OS certificates in your
keychain. Can you get to secure websites without errors using a web browser?
Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi,
Can you please launch the Keychain Access Application and click on the x509
anchors text on the left side and then take a screenshot of the window and
send it to me at harrissrebecca@hotmail.com?
Thanks,
Rebecca
