I am force to download the latest version for messenger. Previously i
am using Messenger 5.1 everything is fine until it was upgraded to
messenger version 6.01. When i double click on the messenger icon it
show message saying "The application Messenger quit unexpectedly" i
tried to restart my comp but it still doesnt work. Is there a way to
make the messenger work or can i just get messenger 5.1 back...

Am using OS 10.4.1

I was experiencing the same thing.  This is what I did and not sure
which one or if both applications did the trick, but I got MSN
Messenger 6.0.1 working.

Download the following program (OnyX), from the following location
(http://www.titanium.free.fr/), this will assist with cleaning Cache
properties and Permissions.

Click Maintenance. In the Reset section, check LaunchServices database.
Uncheck any other pre-checked options if you've already done them using
other utilities.
Click the Execute button.
Restart your computer.

Then download the following program (appdelete), from the following
location
(http://www.apple.com/downloads/macosx/system_disk_utilities/appdelete.html).

Delete all traces of MSN Messenger programs using this program.

Download (MSN Messenger 6.0.1), from the following location
(http://www.mactopia.com)

Good Luck, again it does sound like a strange fix but, I'm up and
running.

What happens if you delete your preferences and reset Messenger?

From Rebecca:

Can you do a little troubleshooting to help us pinpoint the problem?

Your problem may be caused by corrupt preferences or settings other than
Messenger. Or you may have an application that's hindering Messenger's
launch. To test this, do the following:

1. Go to Apple menu --> System Preferences... --> Accounts.
2. Create a new account. This account will be temporary for this test
only.
3. Log in to the new account.
4. Launch Messenger.

In this new account does Messenger stay launched or does it quit
immediately here as well?

Hi,

What OS are you running? Do you get any crash logs?

Thanks,
Rebecca
