saved conversations not complete

Hi,

I¹ve noticed that since upgrading to 6.0 and then 6.0.1, messenger doesn¹t
always save complete conversations.  It¹s happened to me twice so far this
week.  I¹m not sure how much of the conversation was lost, but the file
sizes for what¹s left are 164k and 125k.

Anyone else having this issue?  I use msn for work, so saving past
conversations is quite important.

My spec:
Powerbook G4
OS 10.4.8

thanks,
isabel

Hi Isabel,

I have not personally seen this. We save the conversations to the Microsoft
User Data folder in a Messenger History folder. If any conversations are
deleted from there, they will also be removed from the history inside
Messenger.

Please also confirm your Conversation History settings in Messenger
Preferences under the History tab. There is a setting ³Delete all
conversations² with several choices. Make sure ³Never² is chosen in the
dropdown.

If ³Never² is chosen and you have not removed any conversations, please
provide me some machine information on your configuration so I can
investigate further.

Thanks,
Rebecca

OK, I see you did put the machine and OS at the bottom, sorry I overlooked
that in your original post.

Hi Rebecca,

Sorry, I don¹t think I explained myself correctly.  The issue is that part
of conversation on a given day seems to go missing. For example, I chat to
someone over the course of a day, leaving the window open all day.  After
I¹ve closed the window at the end of that day, the conversation is saved,
but only part of it.  The last part of the conversation does not appear in
conversation history window.  This has only happened a few times since I
upgraded, but it is very annoying since the info I actually need is now
missing.

My preferences are set to save messages automatically without asking.

thanks,
isabel

Hi Isabel,

Do you have it set to delete conversations after so long? If so, that may be
why part of it is appearing to be missing.

When you say the last part, are you referring to the latest part of your
conversation, meaning the part that you had most recent?

Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

My preferences are set to never delete conversations.

Yes, I¹m referring to the last part of a conversation.  Yesterday I copied a
conversation into another application before I closed the window in case
this happened again. The conversation began at 16:44:24 and in my saved
conversation (in the msn Œconversation history¹ window) cuts off the
conversation at 17:39:02, when it actually finished at 17:52:35.

The Conversation History window cut off at:

My friend says: (17:39:02)
cool

Me says:

and doesn¹t even include what I replied with.

I had a conversation with the same person today and the whole conversation
was saved and appears in Conversation History.

Please let me know if you need any other info.

thanks,
isabel

Hi Rebecca,

Just wondering if any one else has reported this problem with their
conversation history?  I¹m still seeing this issue on almost a daily basis.

thanks,
isabel

Hi Isabel,

We have not had any reports in the newsgroups, the forums I check or via
Product Support. I also had the entire team try to mimic your setup of
chaining a long history all day.

I will continue working on this, but am not sure what is triggering this at
this time.

Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi Isabel,

Can you tell me how much hard drive storage space you have left on your
machine where the Microsoft User Data folder is stored? This folder is in
your Documents folder, but you may have put an alias to it elsewhere!

Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

Sorry for the delay in response.  I have 37.6 GB of space left and there is
only one Microsoft User Data folder in MyUsername > Documents.

thanks,
isabel

By the way, saw that someone else posted that their conversations are being
cut off on 26 Oct, subject: Save to history cuts off.

Kind of relieved it's not just me, but wish this issue would get fixed.

thanks,
isabel
