I am also having this problem - every time I sign in to Messenger it says I
must download a newer version in order to continue. When I download it, a
file opens on my desktop and when I click it, I get signed in and all is
well. But when I restart my iMac, it asks me to download a new version
again. It does this every time I turn the computer on. I am very new to Macs
(this computer is only 2 weeks old) so am wondering where I am supposed to
put the downloaded file or whether I am deleting it every time by mistake.
Can anyone help me??

Hi Amie,

When you download Messenger you must drag the messenger icon to your
applications folder in order to copy it to your machine, this is why it isn't
working.

When you download messenger and you see the disk image (white disk icon) on
your desktop, open the hard disk and open your applications folder, then go
to the desktop and open that white disk, drag the messenger icon from that
disk into your applications folder and it should copy across.

Hope this helps

Rob
