Connect from one Mac and not from other on same network

Hi,

I cannot connect to messenger from one Mac (an iBook G4), but I can
from another (an iMac G5) on the same home wireless network. It used to
work fine about a week ago, and I cannot recall making any changes to
either the computer or the network that could cause such an effect.
Further details:

1. I have tested using both Messenger 4 and 5. Same result.
2. Connecting using Fire *does* work on the iBook.
3. I have tried connecting using different accounts, both cannot
connect using messenger on the iBook.
4. The error message when trying to connect is "Sign in to Microsoft
Messenger failed because the service is not responding. The service is
not available or you may not be connected to the internet."
5. If I deliberatly type my password incorrectly, then the message is
"Sign in failed because the password is incorrect or the sign-in name
does not exist <snip>". Thus messenger seems to somehow be
communicating with the server.
6. I have tried connecting using a cable connected to my router, not
using the wireless network. Same result.

Can anyone help?

nym.
