I have never been able to sign into Microsoft Messenger 5.0 for Mac
since it was released last month. I have  been trying to sign in with a
corporate account. I get a message that says:
"Microsoft Messenger cannot sign you in Either date and time settings
are incorrect, or the digital certificate file is not valid or
installed on your computer. If date and time are correct, see your
network administrator to verify that your digital certificate file is
valid and installed."

I have checked my settings and they seem to be correct. If it is a
digital certificate what I need, does nayone know how to get it?

Thanks.

Yes, you need a certificate which needs to be installed.  You'll have to get
it from your network administrator.

it's for 24 hours that I can't have access in messenger ( I have MSN
5.0 and it works normally for some days since I have made the update)
the message that appears , says
"the access to Microsoft Messenger is not possible because the service
is unavailable or there is not Internet Connection"
I have a Internet connection because I'm working on line , is it
possible that Microsoft Messenger Service is unavailable?
In which way can I check the availability of this service?

I am having the same problem on Mac after installing the latest software
update. The messenger works fine on my XP with the same passport account. My
guess is the latest security update somehow block the messenger to sign in.
I would like to try uninstalling the latest OS X security update if I know
how.

Hi, i've had the same problem and what i did was i trhew the messenger
off my computer(power book G4) and installed it again. i still don't
get why we're always having this problem, it happened to me a couple
times already that i was unable to log into the messenger eventhough i
was connected to the internet and got the message ...can't log in bc
service is unavailable or you are not connected to the internet... what
is this all about?!!!

Hi,

Please try these troubleshooting steps:

1. If you are behind a firewall that does not allow full access to the MSN
Messenger application add MSN Messenger for Mac through the firewall
exception list.

  a. Select "System Preferences" from the Apple desktop menu to open the
System Preferences window.

  b. Click on "Sharing" and in the Sharing window, click on "Firewall".

  c. Click on "New" and choose MSN Messenger from the list of applications.

2. If you are not behind a firewall but use an Internet Service Provider
instead, make sure that the "I use a proxy server" check box is disabled to
establish a direct connection to Microsoft Passport Network.

  a. On the MSN Messenger menu, click "Preferences", click "Accounts", and
then click the "Personal" tab.

  b. Under "My Network Settings", click "Manually configure settings", and
then uncheck the "I use a proxy server" check box.

Hope this helps.
