I have Mac Messenger 5.0. Preferences are set so that I should hear an
alert when I get an IM and Messenger is not the front app. No matter
what I do (including redownloading) I cannot make this work. In fact,
I've installed it on two different ibooks, and get the same result. I
do, however, hear the appropriate alert when a contact comes online.
Anyone have a clue?
What are your current sound preferences? Could you list them for me?
Thanks,

All sound alerts are on except for e-mail. When I click on the sounds
button, sounds are selected for all of the alerts.
