I had the same problem, and I was looking around on this site and found this..

Launch Messenger, but don't sign-in
Choose the option "Sign in with a different account"
Click "Clear Account History"
Click "Clear History"
Now click Sign-in and enter your credentials again

I got this problem now. I found that logging in with ENGLISH localisation works fine, but in SWEDISH I get this issue.

Will try the solution in this thread, but thought that observation might add something?

The trick about clearing history worked for me logged on as swedish.

Does it keep the settings separate based on localisation settings?

Thanks, this worked for me. But I found out that you can still click on the sign in button. After that, when you look down at the bottom of the dialogue box, you can see the "Clear History" button.

Thanks so much for this.
