I can only see certain display pics of my contacts.. some show up some don't.. my display pic is there I have 7.01 but it was like that in 6.03 also any ideas?
MacManX@officeformac.com - 08 Jul 2008 22:29 GMT
I have exactly the same problem on all my three Macs. If you ask your contact to change to another pic, that pic will show in your chat window. If he/she then changes back to the first pic you will be able to see that one as well.
Very strange indeed.

I have the same problem on my new mac. I cant even change my display picture....
Jen - 10 Jul 2008 23:50 GMT
I also can't change my display picture. If I try to change it to one of the Messenger icons, nothing happens. When I try to use my own photo, it tells me the file format isn't correct. It's frustrating!

Here's some advice Rebecca Harriss posted:

1. Go to your ~/Documents/Microsoft User Data folder and inside there is the
Microsoft Messenger Data folder. When Messenger IS NOT launched move this
folder to the desktop. Then launch Messenger, sign-in and try to change your
display picture.

If the above doesn't work, please try the following:
Launch Messenger, but don't sign-in
Choose the option to "Sign in with a different account . . ."
Click Clear Account History . . .
Click Clear History
Now click Sign-in and enter your credentials again

If that doesn't work,
Launch Messenger
Sign-in
Go to View | Conversation History then close the History window
Now go to your display picture and see if you can change it

Hi!

Is your daughter using a custom display picture (rather than one of the
default ones included with Messenger)? Can you tell me what format the image
was in? This is usually easy to figure out by looking at the extension in
the file name. For instance, if the image is named "mypicture.jpg", then it
is a jpg image.

Thanks for your assistance in troubleshooting this behavior :)

I'm having some trouble reproducing this behavior locally. Is your daughter
using Mac Messenger or Windows Live Messenger?

I'm having the same problem, I can't see my contact's display picture. When I ask them to change it, I can see the new one, but when I ask them to change it back I can't see the old one.

The original file was a jpg, and the new pics he changed it to were jpg as well. All custom pictures, no Messenger icons.

Forgot to add, all my contacts use Windows Live Messenger.
