Does MSN Messenger support a configuration that does not require end-users to
have .NET Passports or an intermediary server.  Our application is a closed
network over point-to-point links, no Email server.  We would like to avoid
adding a server for Instant Messaging registration.  If this configuration
can be supported, can you provide some of the MSN Messenger configuration
details.

Hi Brian!

Messenger does not support point-to-point. You can let Microsoft know
that you'd like to see this feature by using the Send Feedback command
under the Help menu in any Office application.

In the meantime, but sure to search some of the open source solutions
currently available. You'll find a few applications that do support this.

Hope this helps!

Bill,

Thanks for your help.  I noticed there were third-party solutions that don't
require a server but was hoping Instant Messenger supported this
configuration.

Thanks again,
Brian
