There seems to be no way to stop my USERNAME from appearing when Messenger
opens.

I share a computer and have 2 MSN accounts - 1 that everyone knows and 1 for
private communications.

I currently cannot stop MSN from displaying my private username and it also
cannot be deleted from the drop down menu.

Is there a way?

Entries in the Most Recently Used username list are stored in the Messenger
preferences file, which is located in /Users/<Your
User>/Library/Preferences/Microsoft/com.microsoft.Messenger.plist.  The Most
Recently Used list for Windows Live (Personal) service is in entries
MSNSignInMRU01-05, and the list for Coporate service is in entries
SIPSignINnMRU01-05.  You can delete the contents of each entry easily using
a program like Property List Editor.  Otherwise, you can open the file using
a text editor and clear the data between the opening and closing <string>
tags under the appropriate key as mentioned above.  Be sure Messenger is
closed when you attempt this!

I think there should be an easier way to clear the list.  If you agree, send
the feature request to Microsoft.  In Messenger, go to Help > Send Feedback.
Otherwise, click on this direct link to enter Mac Product Feedback:
