Thanks for the clarification, John. I have given up on waiting for Microsoft
to release an A/V-capable version of Mac Messenger; I'm using Skype instead.

You and me both. This shows the utter foolishness of Microsoft deliberately
crippling the Mac version of Messenger, all they are doing is driving
everyone (Mac and PC users alike) to the competition! They are now making
the same mistake with Office 2008 for Mac, due to its lacking VBA support
and Microsoft failing to confirm they will [ever] add the successor to VBA
[.net] to it, people will either be deserting it completely (for OpenOffice
or NeoOffice), or will simply not upgrade from Office 2004.
If only Apple would do (the Leopard version of) iChat for Windows, Messenger
would soon be nothing but an unpleasant memory, iChat is sooo much better
that PC users would drop dead in shock.

Don't forget that a considerable number of people have never heard of or
don't need to use VBA; to them, the absence of VBA will not matter at all.
And to be fair, according to the screenshots and the information available
online, a lot of effort has gone into Microsoft Office 2008. It would be
wrong to assume that 2008 is simply 2004 + Universal Binary - VBA.

I'm not sure Windows Messenger would disappear that quickly. On the Windows
platform, Live Messenger has a lot of very nice features (among them A/V
chat), and I don't think you could easily convince people to switch from MSN
to AIM or .Mac. Now if Apple was to build MSN support into iChat, *that*
would be an entirely different deal. At the same time, now that Apple has
ported Safari to Windows, who knows what will happen next?
