Mac 10.3.9 - Download Messenger for Mac 6.0.2. - Problem crashing as
soon as you try to select a contact or press a button.  It had been
working fine until the upgrade was forced on me.  then thats it...it
seizes on me.  I had tried to use 5.1.1 and 4.0.1 again but it
requires that i upgrade.  Whats gone wrong?

Hi,

You need to do the update or you won't be able to sign-in. If you are unable
to download the image via the auto-update, you can go directly to the
Microsoft web site and download the .dmg file.

Here is a link to the downlaod:
load/misc/messenger60_download.xml>

You then click on the language for your download. Once it is downloaded a
dmg should appear wherever you have your downloads go. If you double-click
on the dmg to open it, you can then drag the Microsoft Messenger application
to your Applications folder. If it asks if you want to replace an old
version, you should choose Yes. Then you can launch and try to sign-in.

Please make sure your original version of Messenger is not launched when you
do the above.

If you crash while signing in or using the product you should see the
Microsoft Error Reporting application launch. If it does and you click "More
Information" you can then select all the text in their (this is the crash
log) and paste it into an email to me.

Let me know if this doesn't work for you.

Thanks,
Rebecca

I have exactly the same problem.

Additionally, I tried to download the French version of Microsoft
Messenger 6.02 to see if it would work better. It was, in fact, still
the English version of Messenger.

Rebecca, if you are a Microsoft employee, why are you giving out a
Hotmail email address rather than a Microsoft one?

I'm not sure that Messenger 6.0 has been localized for French. I am only
finding version 5.0 available on the French Mactopia website.

I would assume for privacy's sake. Easier to dump a Hotmail account if
you start getting spam.

Actually, Messenger 6.0 is a packaged application that includes
localizations for several languages, including French.  This means that if
you set French as the preferred language in the International pane of System
Preferences, the application's interface should open in French.  However,
because the application uses the same code, this is unlikely to solve your
problem.

I use a hotmail account for privacy. Once someone contacts me via hotmail I
can then reply from my Microsoft account if needed. I do not want to post my
Microsoft account on the newsgroup as I will get spammed.

Thanks,
Rebecca
