magic mouse oddities

no serious problems, this time, but some curiosity...

I'm using my new iMac, with OS 10.6.2. Wireless keyboard and mystical magical
mouse. I love it. My level of expertise is such that I would probably get by
with a hand-cranked, woodburning computer, but I'll never go back there, now.

What I am curious about is why I will sometimes zoom a screen without having
to use the control key, depending on what software I'm using at the time. I'm
not quite organized enough yet, to make specific notes on this.

I enjoy the ability to scroll up and down a screen by stroking the top of the
mouse, rather than using the scroll bar on the right of the screen. It is
disconcerting to have something happen that I am not expecting. Expecting to
scroll down, and suddenly the image shrinks to a dot instead, I am taken
aback. Fortunately, I have turned off voice commands, so that the computer
will not react to what I say when I get surprised by this event.

I apologize for taking your time with this item, but if you have the time for
some input to this little puzzle, I'd be grateful.

Respectfully,
tom koehler

Maybe I can guess what specific situation in which you're having
trouble... is it Google Maps? Google Earth? In both cases, the scroll
function is interpreted as zoom. The Magic Mouse sometimes seems a bit
over sensitive to scroll instructions and if you're using a program
that can zoom via scroll commands, you'll be surprised often with Magic
Mouse.

come to think of it, yes to Google Maps and Google Earth. Am not sure if
there are others. Thanks.
