Mac Menu Oddity

I'm running OS X 10.5.2 on an Intel based MacBook Pro and am experiencing
what I'll dub an oddity in menu presentation.

Most of the time I'll experience "normal" behavior which to me is that when
one clicks on a menu drop down that drop down stays visible until a click is
made in a non-menue area. Furthermore, if that drop down has a subordinate
side list that list remains visible as long as the cursor is positioned
either on the selector for that list, or within the list, or moved outside
the list, and this behavior applies to subordinates of a subordinate ad
nauseam.

But what is happening to me is that on occasions, and for reasons unknown,
the instant the cursor moves outside of a dropdown or subordinate the entire
menu now is as though no selection whatsoever had been made, that is, all
that appears is the menu bar itself. Also, when such behavior occurs it
happens for any application.

As I've indicated, this oddity only occurs occasionally, and when it does I
find it most frustrating. I've gone through the verify disk and repair
permissions without any problems being noted.

Any thoughts and/or suggestions (including ones that might point out that
somewhere I'm making an unwanted or stupid setting) will be appreciated.

Methinks I may have found the source of the problem and that is that the
oddity occurs when I have two separate and active bluetooth mice connected at
the same time. I have one mouse that sits on my desk and another that I keep
in my computer carrying case to use when I'm where I might have wireless
access. It seems that mouse was left on and the connection was being
recognized by the computer. Furthermore it is quite likely that when shoved
into the case that one or both of the buttons could be pressed.

Anyhowz, the problem hasn't occurred since that mouse was turned off. That
also might explain why I noticed the problem only when at home.

It's nice to find a logical explanation and solution, isn't it?  It
turns out this is one only someone right there could have figured out,
as it's hard to imagine anyone else coming up with it.

Much better than religious mythology.

But would it have been found within MS-DOS?

With or without religion, you would have good people doing
good things and evil people doing evil things. But for good
people to do evil things, that takes religion.

Is that so, Blowhard cross dresser?.  The best solution would be for the OS
to recognize both mice, like WINDOWS.

Keep Mike out of your personal problems.

But that was exactly the cause of the problem‹that the Mac OS was responding
to both mice!

DORK hasn't ever bothered to try it on a Mac, so of course he wouldn't
know that. Macs have supported multiple mouses and keyboard for as long
as I can remember.

Currently, I always have two mouses connected to my Mac: a Mighty Mouse,
and a Logitech Scroll Wheel mouse. When I play fast-paced action games,
I swap to the Logitech. For everything else, I use the Mighty Mouse.

I can run two wireless mice without a conflict - WINDOWS recognizes both.
IOW, I can use either one at will.

It's the same with Macs, and that's exactly what was causing his
problem. He didn't realize that the second bluetooth mouse, which was
tucked away in his carrying case but still turned on, was being
recognized by the computer.

If this had turned out to be solved by a permissions repair I would have
happily eaten my hat!! (Glad to see that you eventually tracked it down
... to a "multiple mouse" problem.

Well, there's nothing like fedora with gravy!   :-)

As an aside, the thought that the problem might be related to my having
multiple mice occurred to me during the sermon at church!

To be honest I don't currently own a hat so maybe I should think of
buying one with some edible qualities ... just in case the opportunity
arises again ! ;)

Finally!!!!

A use for religion.

Thanks be to the prophets Jobs and Gates.
