Microphone to MacBook Pro to Speakers

I have a wireless microphone which when connected to my Mac produces a good
signal.

I have a set of externally powered speakers which when connected to my Mac,
an being fed sound from such as iTunes, produce sound of a volume sufficient
for a moderate size group gathering.

The problem is that I haven't been able, on my MacBook Pro, to route the
input from the microphone to the output to the speakers.

There is a signal level incompatibility if I attempt to connect the
microphone directly to the speakers the result is almost inaudible even when
the volume control on the speakers is set to maximum.

So, the question is, is there a way I can route the sound from the microphone
through the Mac and on to the speakers?
