I want to transfer files from one hard disc to the other.

Can I just plug them together via ethernet?
Would I need a crossover cable? Haven't got one at the moment, just
straight.

Do I need to change any settings?

Thanks

Pete

Forget to say. I have a 5 port mini hub, could I use that with 2 runs of
straight ethernet cable or are there esier ways?

Thanks

Ethernet works.  I suspect both systems support auto-detect on the
ethernet so direct connect will work.  Using an ethernet Hub or
Switch will most definitely work.  Then using System Preferences
-> Sharing -> Personal File Sharing, you can turn one system into
a server, and on the other system use Finder -> Go menu -> Connect
to Server -> Browse to find and connect to the other system.

If both system support Firewire, you can connect them via
Firewire, then boot one of them in "Target Mode" by holding down
the 'T' key while booting.  This will allow the other system to
mount the Target mode booted system's disk as an external disk.

If the volume of files is small, you can use one of those cheap
USB keychain drives to "Sneaker Net" your files from one system to
another.  1GB and 2GB USB drives are running in the $10 to $30

Thanks Bob, lots of things for me to try there.
