Is there a free anti-virus program for the Mac?  I'm using Avast on my
PC and it's great.  Anything like it?

Also, I use Spybot and Adaware on my PC.  Is there any free programs
like those for the Mac?

Thanks

But...

They're unnecessary. For a user who takes reasonable precautions under
their own initiative, anti-malware apps on a Mac OS X machine _today_
are a waste of CPU. There's nothing from which you need their protection.

The best reason for running such things on a Mac (today) is that there's
someone with the authority to require it exercising said authority.

The second-best reason is to protect your Windows-using friends who
don't have up-to-date anti-malware software of their own from anything
you might unintentionally forward to them in mail. (But, again, this is
easily dealt with by taking reasonable precautions on your own.)

Yes, here is the anti-virus program every Mac user should use:

Yes, here is the anti-spyware/adware/malware program every Mac user
should use:

There you go!  Happy to help.  Welcome to Macintosh.

As has been pointed out there is no need for anti-virus programs on the
OS X Mac.

On the Windows XP I have on my Parallels virtualiser I use AVG Free
Edition and it seems to be fine.

Is this Beth Part II?

If you're not part of the solution, you're part of the precipitate.

Oh, I don't think he's similar to Beth at all.  Rather than asking what
to use, she would tell us she's having problems downloading or
installing something no one said she should use in the first place and
then get angry when we tell her she doesn't need it.

BTW, so far I've been unsuccessful in my search for NZ beers here.

Of course, moments after posting that I discovered he'd posted the same
thing to another group...

Oh, I haven't come close to exhausting my resources.  And if I can't
find anything locally here in northeast Florida, my family lives in the
Washington, DC, area, where I'm much more likely to be successful.

Great grief, Mike! What's so great about our beer? Tastes pretty awful
to me. But then all beer does. :-)

I have no idea, actually, having never had any.  Jamie and I were joking
around about meeting up at a pub, though (not easy when we're roughly
half the globe apart), which led to him recommending I try Speights or
Monteiths.

There was a time when all beer tasted awful to me, too, but that was
when I'd only had mass-produced American lagers.

Heh. Too bitter for you?

I'd be curious to hear what I should look out for in the way of imported
beer (local to you)?

I like Anchor Porter and Anchor Steam.  Samuel Adams has some good ones,
too.
