Joshua Whalen - 15 Feb 2010 20:03 GMT Howdy, all!
I just upgraded from tiger to snow leopard about a month ago. One thing I'm finding very annoying is the new dock behavior vis-a-vis docked folders. I can't really see any real use for stacks or fans, honestly (although I'm one of those folks who keeps his dock on the left, not the bottom, and that might have something to do with it) and I really HATE the fact that I can't just put a folder in my dock, and have it open in the finder when I click on it. I don't want a list, a fan or a grid, I just want the folder to pop open like it used to.
So, I'm wondering, is there a way to make this happen? A hidden setting, a third party add on, a dock replacement, anything?
TIA!
Joshua

A hidden setting, > a third party add on, a dock replacement, anything? Right press on the on the folder and then while still pressing point to the bottom item on the pop-up menu and release. This will open the folder without there being a stack or grid.

Joshua Whalen - 16 Feb 2010 00:49 GMT Taliesin, that's a big help. Of course, I'd love to do this with but a single click rather than a click and hold, but it sure beats what I had to do before. Thanks for the swift reply

Right click or ctrl-click on the item and select either fan, grid, list or automatic.

He doesn't want fan, grid, or list. He wants to click on a folder that he's placed in the Dock, and have that folder open up in the Finder, and he wants that to happen as default behavior.

Command-click opens the enclosing folder. Command-option-click opens the folder itself.

Joshua Whalen - 16 Feb 2010 00:51 GMT Yeah, I knew about that, biut what if none of those does what I want? I just want a single click to open the folder in the finder. I was hoping someone might have 'share-ware'd' a solution, but thus far it looks like no one has. Time to get out xcode and dig around in the docs.
Thanks for the effort, none the less.

An easier way, if you don't mind a little setup, is to create an Automator workflow to get/open a specified folder.
