Contextual menu has "More" instead of just having things listed

I think I knew how to fix this once upon a time. I'd rather have everything
in the "More" submenu be in the first level.

It was a change that Apple introduced with Leopard. To the best of my
knowledge there is no way to eliminate the extra level. On a quick
search, it appears no participant at MacOSXHints has found a solution.

Thanks. What I think I remember was similar behavior caused by some
extra/haxie I was using and was definitely on a pre-Leopard setup. That's not
the case now as even on a SafeBoot/root startup it was present.

As a developer of context menu plugins, I can't express to you how much
joy I got last October to suddenly receive a bunch of messages telling
me that my software didn't work under Leopard because the menu items had
"disappeared."

[grumble]

I dislike this change as well. It seemed rather arbitrary to me at
first.

If I think about it from *Apple's* perspective, however, I can certainly
see why they might want to separate third party menu commands from the
standard set of Apple commands.

Sure, but I would like the option. So it goes.

Oh, absolutely. And it even makes a bit of sense from the user
perspective once they user gets educated. Seems to me, though, that
Apple did a weaker-than-usual job of communicating changes up-front with
Leopard. The first wave of upgraders got more surprises - I mean
deliberate changes, not bugs - than I'd like to see as someone who gets
turned to for support.

But being a lazy SOB having to drag down then zig-zag (oh, those were the
days) is such a significantly greater PITA than merely dragging down. At
least I know I dont have to waste frustration until some makes a modifying
utility or Apple gives us an option.

Thanks for the info and insights, y'all.
