Mac Forum / General / General / July 2008C S ConfigDotMacCert keeps asking for password on Startup
Since I replaced .Mac with MobileMe and synced my G5 Leopard 10.5.4 I get: 'CS Config Dot Mac Cert wants to use "georgekerby" Keychain Please enter password' This happens every time I start the machine. And, like another poster complained this AM, Safari wants the same. Neither of these ever happened before the MobileMe fiasco. I look in my Keychain Utility and the only mention of Safari key is in the form fill-out. I wouldn't be bugging you guys but Apple has produced such a bug-riddled replacement for what was a good product that tech support is no longer offered for MobileMe vict - err, customers. I was logged in to my account on my iMac and a friend who was with me was browsing in Safari. At one point he went to a website where he had to log in and Safari popped up the question about whether we wanted to save the password in my Keychain. Clearly we didn't, so I clicked "Never for this website" and it asked me to authenticate using my Keychain password!! It took a few seconds for me to realise that if you don't want to ever save that password in your Keychain then that fact has to be stored somewhere. It gets stored in the Keychain itself, which means you have to grant access if it is locked. I didn't authenticate and instead we tried logging in to the site again and this time clicked "Now now" instead of "Never" - it didn't ask me to authenticate. So I guess my general point is that there can be valid but non-obvious reasons for being asked to authenticate. I don't know anything about MobileMe so I can't help in this specific case. Ian |
