Just upgraded a Black MacBook (bought in Feb 07) to OS 10.4.10. Since
then, my wife has had trouble sending email through Mail, although she
receives it just fine. I seem to be able to send mail with no problems
from my account (we have different login names). We use the same SMTP
out going server. I have read that many people have been having this
problem. Does anyone have a remedy for this problem? Thanks.

You haven't described the problem sufficiently for anyone to answer.
Is there anything more descriptive than "my wife has trouble sending
email" you are willing to divulge to us?

The SMTP server may be the same, but what about the port,
authentication, and password settings?
If one account can send but another can't, then clearly some setting is
different in Mail. Many of the relevant settings are easy to overlook.

Your ISP should be your first stop.

Triple check her settings. Beyond that, we'll need much more information
to help figure out which settings may be wrong. If going over the
settings with a fine toothed comb doesn't do it, post those settings here
(minus password) and people here may be able to help.

All our setting were exactly the same. I used MacJanitor to run all the
clean up scripts and then fixed permissions and now everything magically
works. It was very odd. The error she was getting was something like
"Unable to send mail through SMTP server". I would log into my account
on the same computer using the exact same ports and SMTP servers and
send a message with no problems.

It's voodoo. Next time you'll probably have to sacrifice a live chicken.

No, that sacrifice is needed only for SCSI chains.

Or sometimes for dinner.

That's a sacrifice only when there's a ritual to the goddess involved;
otherwise, it's just dinner. As Sigmund once said, sometimes a cigar is
just a cigar.
