Hi,
I am trying to clear some space in the menu bar. Already removed a few
icons that I was not using, but I am unable to find how to remove the
following :
- the IrDA icon (I have IrDA on my TiBook 667MHz GB-EN): I have not used
IrDA for years
- the BlueTooth icon (well, I use BT once every 6 months)
- the VPN icon (never used)
Needless to say, right-clicking on the icon does not help, and these
functions do not have an associated Preferences Pane.

Have you tried holding the Command/Apple key down while dragging the
icon off the menu bar?

You don't say what OS you are using, but 10.4 certainly does have a
Bluetooth preference pane, and you can use it to remove the icon from
the menu bar. I don't know the answer for the others, however.

The VPN icon is control via the Internet Connect applet.  BT is
controlled by the BT prefs pane.

System Preferences -> Bluetooth
- OR -
Bluetooth icon -> Open Bluetooth Preferences

Uncheck "Show Bluetooth status in menu bar".

Keep in mind that if you actually need that space for menus, the info
icons are not displayed.

Command-click on any of them and drag it off the menu bar to poof it
gone.  You can use that combo to just rearrange their order as well.
