Apple issues AirPort Extreme security update
Apple has patched a hole in AirPort on Intel Macs
Jonny Evans

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Apple has introduced an AirPort Extreme software update for users of Intel
Macs.

The 6.5MB update is described by the company as: "Recommended for all
Intel-based Macs and provides compatibility with AirPort Extreme base
stations and networks."

The update fixes a vulnerability that affects both the server and client
versions of Mac OS X and was disclosed as part of the month of Apple bugs
project.

The flaw meant attackers on the wireless network could cause system crashes
by sending a maliciously crafted frame to an affected system.

This issue affects the Core Duo version of Mac mini, MacBook, and MacBook
Pro computers equipped with wireless. Other systems, including the Core 2
Duo versions are not affected. This update addresses the issue by performing
additional validation of wireless frames.

The update is available for multiple operating languages and requires Mac OS
X 10.4.8 and an Intel-based Mac.

Oh wow!  Apple fixed a small flaw before it became a problem.  Much
better than some other unnamed software companies that don't fix flaws
until after they become big problems.

What has she done to you to deserve such an attitude. I do
know of Michelle Steiner, from the internet, I have no problems with
her. Now If you have a macintosh related reponse... this is the
place... If not, close trap.

Dr. Z is just trying to get some attention, s/he's a harmless little
twerp.

And of all the people around here, Michelle's in the top 5 when it
comes to being able to defend herself.

I'll take that as a compliment. <g>

And sometimes I even know that the best defense is to ignore the
attacker, as you may have noticed that I'm doing with DoRa Zero.

THANK YOU!

Now if we could just get everyone else to do that, it would give up and
go away and would be a thing of the past.

Yeah, well, that's never a realistic expectation.  I don't understand
why people don't just killfile the people whose posts they don't want to
read _AND_ all followups to those posts.  I don't know offhand which
newsreaders allow you to do this easily (well, MacSOUP is one), but it's
definitely a worthwhile feature to have, in my opinion.

Unison doesn't currently let you do the follow-ups part, but you can
bet I'm putting in a feature request for it.

I am using MT Newswatcher.  It is easy to kill both authors and thread
topics.  My news group activity has reduced by about 30% will my kill
files.  Takes about three key strokes.

Yes, but what I'm talking about is better yet, killing authors as well
as any thread started by those authors.

I wonder why zero thinks I KFed him.  I just don't waste my time on that
misogynistic homophobic infantile bigot is all.

Chicken is good; in fact, I f.cked (er, fried) one for dinner last
night--well, not the whole chicken, just half of a breast; I'm not a
pervert, after all.
