You can re-configure your scroll button not to load/unload your widgets if
you want: System Preferences--Keyboard and Mouse.

You are probably accidentally hitting the keyboard combination that
makes them appear. You have the choice to turn this off if you want to.
Open System preferences and use Keyboard and Mouse.
You reconfigure which widgets appear on your screen by clicking on the
round circle with the plus mark in it that is in the lower left corner
of your screen when the widgets are active.

Out of the box, one of the buttons on the Apple pseudo-multi-button
mouse is programmed to invoke Expose. This can be disabled with the
appropriate Preference Panel (Keyboard and Mouse?).

Assuming you're talking about Dashboard Widgets.
This only happens when you activate Dashboard. By default Dashboard is
triggered by the F12 key only. If you can trigger it with something else
(perhaps moving your mouse cursor into a specific corner), then you must
have configured that yourself. Just change that ito whatever *is*
practical to you.

Eh? Never heard of a middle scroll button.

Downloading is 1 thing, installing another, and activating yet another
;) Anyway, to deactivate a Dashboard Widget, first activate Dashboard,
then hold the Option/Alt key. Now when you moce the mousecursor over a
Widge you'll see an X sign right next to it. Click that to close the
Widget.
