I've bought a copy of Final Cut Express 2 when I got my laptop, but
never used it. Now, I'm starting to use it. I have some video that was
shot in a gymnasium and there's a loud buzzing noise coming from the
gymnasium lights. I've done a fair job of removing it with the EQ based
tools in FCE, but I think I could do better with more sophisticated
sound tools. It looks like I have two options.

1) Upgrade to FCE HD. Not only does this upgrade FCE, but it also
includes SoundTrack and LiveType. SoundTrack has tools for removing
noise.

2) I could purchase SoundSoap. It also has tools for removing noise.

Both choices cost $100. Choice (1) seems like a better deal, but the
main task is cleaning up this audio. I have little experience with this
sort of thing. If SoundSoap is so much better than SoundTrack, maybe
it's the better choice.

If anyone has experience with these applications, I'd like to hear about
it.

Thanks.

Don't. It isn't worth the bits it's made of. This software should be
called "sounds like soap".

If you want a cheap solution, and if there is a section of the
soundtrack consisting of just the buzz, try the noise removal feature of
Amadeus. Try many different settings and see if you find one that is
satisfactory.

Otherwise, if you really want decent noise cleanup software, prepare to
spend much more than $100. Even then you can't expect miracles. m.
