Hey all,
After my last major software update on 12 Januari Disk Utility
(repairing permissions) has problems. The last update included QT
(7.0.4), iTunes (6.0.2), Safari (1.3.2) and iPod updater 2006-01-10. I'm
running OSX 10.3.9.
Disk Utility can't finish the job. Error messages include:
"Repairing permissions on disk /
*** malloc[1234]: Deallocation of a pointer not malloced: 0x509570; This
could be a double free(), or free() called with the middle of an
allocated block; Try setting environment variable MallocHelp to see
tools to help debug
: for architecture i386 object:
./Applications/iTunes.app/Contents/MacOS/iTunes malformed object
(unknown flavor for flavor number 0 in LC_UNIXTHREAD command 27 can't
byte swap it)."
iTunes.app keeps popping up, although the program itself is running fine.
Onyx, Macaroni and Yasu can't repair permissions either. Running Disk
Utility from the installation CD works all right, but that, apparently,
isn't the solution.
When Disk Utility 'hangs' it displays (in Dutch): "the connection
between Disk Utility and Disk Management Tool is broken. Disk Utility
can't continue. Stop Disk Utility and start again."
Does anyone know this problem and how to fix it?
Thanks,
Stephan.

It is a well known problem. From your harddrive, go to /Library/Receipts and
have a look at the stuff that starts with "iTunes...". Remove everything but
"iTunesX.pkg". This should cure the problem.
