Anyone know? My WGR614 was about that price if I remember correctly. The GF
needs one for her (Windows) laptop & I can't see them in PC world anymore..

Sorry...yip - cable (Virgin).

Have just seen it at sub-£30 on a couple of sites. But...I /do/ find it
bloody annoying that a lot of times it doesn't show you the cost for postage
until you've registered/moved to the checkout stage..!

The WGR614 is the only current netgear that has that feature set... so
probably, yes.

Ooh - quick question: Does it support having one end of a VPN on it?

If you pop into the UI, does if have some screens labeled "VPN" where
you can enter connection details?

I'm assuming you still have yours up and running, btw.

Now what does /this/ mean?

Safari could not open the page ³http://192.168.0.1/² because the server is
not responding

Not sure if I've changed something at some point...?

Have to pop out now, but will check again later.

You may have changed its IP address at some point. It'll probably be
the router for whichever network interface is pointing at it, which
you can check in Network Prefs.

Ta!

Yeah - I had changed it. I've also changed the username/password to....dunno!
It's not noted down anywhere - I can't get in...

Sorry. A quick Google on 'vpn' & 'wgr614v7' shows results which, I think,
mean the answer to your question is...probably... 'yes' - *but* there might
be issues with the (my) firmware (i.e. v7) you'll need to check...'tis over
my head! :-)

Doh! Always annoying. But if you haven't got any particular clever
stuff set up, there's a reset button (don't do it just for me
though!).

No, I tried that already, and read the manual off the Netgear website.
Both talk about VPN passthrough, which means that a computer on one
side of it is connecting via VPN software to a computer on the other
side of it.

What I'm looking for is an ethernet router that'll handle one end of a
VPN, because I want to do this:

My computers and NAS-hosted backups
VPN endpoint on my router (Netgear DG834)
{teh Intarnets}
ADSL Router at a friend's house
VPN endpoint on my other router (trying to find one that'll do it)
My other NAS box

so I can have proper off-site backups.

Isn't it funny how much mature wisdom resembles being too tired to bother?

Yeah. Bit reluctant to do that... I'm /fairly/ sure I did something with it,
but...I'm at a bit of a loss to remember just what at the moment!

Probably. Go into System Preferences > Network, and find the router
address associated with the ethernet or wireless network (whichever one
you're using). Then enter that into your web browser.
