Might they have installed an uninstall script, or uninstall instructions?
If not, you'll need to find out which files were installed by querying
the packaging system, and move them aside yourself. (But be careful, as
the reason why there's no OS X uninstaller is because the packaging
system doesn't know if files are installed in multiple packages, so
can't safely remove things.)
To query Leopard's packaging system use the terminal and type:
pkgutil --pkgs | grep -i jmicron
Hopefully that'll print something like "com.jmicron.something". Then
get a list of installed files using:
pkgutil --files com.jmicron.something
On Tiger it is worse - use the terminal and type:
cd /Library/Receipts
ls | grep -i jmicron
That ought to print out something like JMicronSomething. Then navigate
into the receipt and list out the bill of materials (installed files):
cd JMicronSomething
lsbom *.bom */*.bom
I can't remember the full details of Tiger, but the above's reasonably close.
Ugh, eh?
Cheers,
Chris

Sadly not. Nothing quite so helpful......
A bit more research determines it's actually an Expansys DR25 card.......and
of course I'm not the only Mac user that's had exactly the same problem.
It also turns out that of course the driver isn't needed, and there's now
way to uninstall it short of a complete OS Archive and Reinstall.
Brilliant.

Thanks for the help. I shall try now.....sadly though it appears that the
driver install modifies things that it shouldn't really modify.
I have the Leopard Install DVD to hand......

Ew, such as?

That's a bit desperate. Are you running Time Machine?

Not sure really....just that the comment from the Expansys tech support
bloke was that they had tried full manual uninstalls and changing out
modified files with no joy. Could be BS of course...

Yes.
BUT......
Haven't TM'ed in the last 10 days or so. And don't know exactly what
files to replace anyway.
Bit the bullet - did the Archive & Reinstall - which was fine.
So I now have nice clean whizzy system - it might even bethe perfect
time to reformat my TM drive and freshen that up as well, since I'm now
sure I have nothing critical changed in the recent past....
By the way - at least the fuggin CF reader card works now! And it's
bloody fast with UDMA CF cards. Transfers a gig or so of Nikon NEF
files in less than a minute. Now I need to go and buy an 8G UDMA card.
Shame they're still bloody expensive.
$11 well spent - just a shame that the installation instructions are
dangerously misleading and cost me several hour of time to get back to
the start point!

Not much help but I've read the tales of woe on Expansys forums and it
surprises me not that that bunch of charlatans ask you to please be
reinstalling your os, we are being sorry for the inconvenience without
actually offering (A) any hint that the stuff supplied would break your OS or
(B) any other solution.
I learned not to buy anything associated with these expensive cowboys a long
time ago.
Could you not have bought a generic USB card reader?

It actually was a generic no-name one....for the princely sum of $11.00
on eBay! Turns out it was the Expansys one with a very slightly
different sticker on it. i.e. exactly the same minus the Expansys name.
Aaaaaaaaanyway......long story short.....did the Archive and Reinstall
painlessly and unattended while I went to the pub for a couple of
hours. Worked flawlessly and the system is back just as it was - minus
the crap Expansys driver. Oh - also took an hour or so for Software
Update to do it's thing, but all in all I've ended up with a slightly
smaller, leaner system install (I think - presumably I have lost a
bunch of interim updates and ended up with combined version if you see
what I mean) which is a good thing I guess. Haven't had to reset
anything - the whole MBP is just as it used to be.
Now......I also have a 15G "Previous Systems" folder on my HDD......if
I check out all my key SW works properly, it's presumably fine to
delete this at some point in the near future ? (I'll probably archive
it on an external drive just to be safe)
