redirecting all mail to Googlemail

I am trying to redirect all my email to my Googlemail account so I can
read it on my PC at work. I have set up a (simple) rule in Mail app
that says: if any of following conditions are met/every message/
redirect message to [my Googlemail address].
But it only works sporadically for some strange reason and I couldn't
see any mail at work today (Tues) since early Monday evening.
When I got home I checked my usual email account (I have a Mailbo x
address as they were my original ISP but aren't any longer) and that
was working fine. But little if anything had been forwarded to
Googlemail since yesterday evening, but after I had opened G'mail
stuff started coming into it (but not everything in my Mailbox account
was forwarded). Forwarding to G'mail seems to work fine at home (where
I don't need it) but not at work (where I do). Should add that in my
Mailbox account everything is marked as having been forwarded even
when it hasn't been. I find this very strange and confusing.
Maybe I should set up a Yahoo or Hotmail account and have all mail
forwarded to that, is this a quirk in G'mail possibly? Or is there
some other way of setting up one's own webmail (Mailbox's which was
one fine is now terrible).

Can anyone please help.

Many thanks.

I do this, but the other way round. All my mail goes through Gmail,
which is cleared via POP for most accounts, or forwarded by Gmail on a
couple. I do it this way so that
a) I have an external spam filter
b) I have an external backup of my mail
c) it is accessible to me from anywhere

I meant to say you can set Gmail to pickup mail from other mail accounts
too, which could accomplish what you're after without having to rely on
Mail.app to forward things properly.

Thanks but would much welcome advice on how to do this as I don't want
to b*gger things up (which I did a couple of days ago when everyone on
a Yahoo group I belong to received all emails dozens of times, I think
it was my fault due to sthg I did to a Gmail setting).
Presumably you suggest configuring my email client in Gmail settings-
>POP Download->Configuration instructions?? This has settings for
Apple Mail 3.0 but I have 1.3.11 (OS10.3.9), don't know if  it will
work with this... Anyhow would be v. grateful for how you did it and
if it was on these lines...

I use Eudora, but I'm sure Mail will handle it - the only slightly
tricky thing is that you need to use SSL. The setting for that in Mail
should be reasonably obvious. It might also be called Secure Sockets
Layer, or Use authentication (TLS) or something similar.

Make sure you don't have a loop - so don't have Mail forwarding your
email to Gmail, then picking up your email from Gmail, and forwarding it
to Gmail etc. Get clear in your head what route the email is taking to
get to the end (your Mail account, presumably).

I'll be in front of a 10.3.9 computer this afternoon, so if you hit a
brick wall I can have a look at the Mail.app there and let you know what
to do.

I have turned off the rule in Mail and configured Gmail settings
instead, inc SSL. I'm off work today so not sure if working as needed
but when I logged off on my home Mac and logged onto my Gmail account
as my wife (different account, same Mac), none of the test emails I
had sent are in the Gmail inbox (but they are in mine). This is using
the same Gmail address, just different logins on our Mac. Trust this
is clear... My guess is that the emails won't arrive on my work PC
tho' can only confirm when I go back to work tomorrow (can't wait!).
Will let you know...

Many thanks,

Michael

Sounds like you might have a broken Mail.app, given the failure of
forwarding and loss of sent mail.

I have recovered sent mail which is a relief and been trying to revert
to redirecting from Mail app but that doesn't work at all now. It's
all very confusing...
