My neighbour's lad has a second problem.  His dad has a Canon ip4500
printer wired into either a windoze box or his Wi Fi router (he wasn't
sure) and his G4 iBook can't print to it.  He tells me he has downloaded
the latest driver from the Canon site but it doesn't appear on the
drivers options list.  If he prints a "test" document (via wi-fi) all he
gets from the printer is a blank page.

I have googled about and found one or two threads on Forums where there
are some issues with the ip4500 being discussed but I can't find a
definitive answer.

Anyone using this combination and can shed some light on his problem ?

If it's wired to the Windows box, then he might find installing Bonjour
onto the Windows machine may work. It worked for me (the other way
around). Download it from the Apple site. If he has Leopard installed on
the iBook, it should just find the IP4500, The iBook we have here found
the IP4200 I have.

ooh - that reminds me of a problem I've not solved.  I too have an
ip4200 connected to a Leopardified iMac.  I also have a Leoparded
MacBook, and I have the 2 set up so that MacBook can see the ip4200, but
when I try printing to it I get a useless window pop up that says "Print
failed".  So nothing else to go on.  Any ideas on what I should try
prodding next?

Cheers,

No, Emily prints to the IP4200 here OK from her iBook, both on 10.5.2.

You might try deleting the printer and reinstalling. Or, check the
firewalls, and make sure you have Printer Sharing turned on.

FWIW we get similar from Tiger to a Win shared ip4000. Canon's fault
apparently. To get round it we bought an ip5200r (network printer).

All the best ..
