Shouldn't do - that setting only affects selections of more than one
word. (What it does is automatically extend the selection to include the
whole of the first word as soon as you start to select a second. It has
no effect when selecting within a single word.)

Makes it easier to select the whole of a sentence or phrase - saves
having to be quite so precise with the mouse when selecting the first word.

This was probably the issue I was having with it. I carefully started in
the middle of word 1, and as I went into word 2 et sez the bastard did
its thing, much to my annoyance.
