Having been unable to get my oldish Canoscan N670U working under
Leopard, I was about to give up and buy a new one when I came across
this link:

http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDet
ailTabAct&fcategoryid=235&modelid=6624#New%20Window

I know it's not the right model, but it worked for me (despite the
installer throwing up warnings), and saved me freecycling a perfectly
good scanner.

Is this PPC or Intel?

I'm not sure how to tell - it just put the Scangear plug-in in the right
folder, dated Sept 2003. I can now scan using the Canoscan toolbox (PPC)
on an Intel iMac under Leopard. I can also select the plug-in from Word,
and import that way. But not, curiously, using iPhoto, whose new-fangled
Help keeps crashing when I search for something.

It sounds like it is Universal. Do a Get Info on the installed plugin
and the Finder should tell you what it is in General > Kind.

Does deleting the help caches er, help? ISTR doing that back in the
Jaguar days, and I can't remember where they are. Google probably does
:-)

Cheers,

Hmm - it just says 'document'. I hadn't noticed that I've got another
Scangear in the root of the apps folder. It's a different version though
- older (copyright 2002, version 7.0.1.0x, as opposed to 2003 and 7.0.1.1x).

May well - might have a look later, thanks.

PPC then. Word runs under Rosetta, so it can use PPC plugins. iPhoto will be
running natively, and can't.

Thanks for the link though.

Yes - it doesn't work using Graphic Converter, but then it's looking for
a twain driver. iPhoto can't use a scanner period - seems a bit daft but
there it is. I'm just happy it works :-)

Pleasure.

Perhaps you need to look in uk.railway?  Arf.

Graphic Converter can be run under Rosetta. I have two copies of it in
my App folder, one set to open in Rosetta for the very purpose of being
able to use the Canon scanner plug-in for my ancient N65U or some number
like that.

Rob,

I'm a recent mac switcher (aluminium imac) and had tried various things from
google searches, without success, to get my old Canoscan N670 to work in
leopard - tried what you suggested and it now does. Thanks for saving it from
the skip! Six years old and still working well.

Rgds

Tim
